CircleBath Launches Hip Unit
14 September 2010
Circle has brought together a group of leading Hip Surgeons from
across the South-West region to create a centre of excellence at
CircleBath.
An innovative specialist unit that combines a new education
programme with standardised treatment techniques is being launched
by CircleBath hospital this month.
The unit - which will treat any medical issues relating to the
hip joint, including hip replacements and fractures - has been
designed to improve the patient experience by providing in-depth
information about treatment methods prior to any operation.
In a unique move, the multi-disciplinary clinical team running
the unit has committed to a set of standardised practices which
will enable a clear reporting process of clinical outcomes, as well
as better post-operative care for every patient. The unit
will also co-ordinate patient transport and home therapy.
CircleBath's Hip Unit will be led by surgeon Matthew Burwell,
and brings together some of the country's leading experts in the
field of hip surgery, including Harvey Sandhu from Bath, David
Shardlow from Yeovil, Evert Smith from Bristol, Mike Rigby from
Swindon and John Timperley from Exeter.
Setting out CircleBath's ambition to make every patient's
experience as enjoyable and stress-free as possible, Mathew Burwell
explained why the hospital is launching this dedicated unit:
"Hip problems, in all age groups, are common and often lead to a
dramatic loss of quality of life and mobility. Surgical
options can be intimidating for some people, so we have established
a specialist unit to ensure our patients can access advice and
information from national experts."
The specialists running the Clinic will be responsible for
participating in ongoing research and evaluation to ensure
treatment practices employed by the hospital remain
cutting-edge. CircleBath will publish all clinical
outcome data for the Unit on its website, www.circlebath.co.uk.
