Jonathan Boulton
Clinical and Executive Board Chairman
Jonathan is a subspecialty accredited oculoplastic surgeon. He
previously provided clinical leadership as Executive Chair of the
Nations Midlands Treatment Centre from 2007-2008. Jonathan trained
as an undergraduate at Cambridge University, and gained his
subspecialty training during overseas fellowships in Brisbane
Australia and in UCLA, California. Jonathan was a founding member
of both the Ophthalmic Clinical Leads Forum and the Association of
Ophthalmologists.

Shelagh Meldrum
General Manager
Shelagh has many years experience as a Nurse Leader in both NHS
and private facilities. She began her career in the NHS as a
Senior Nurse working in Acute Medicine, and subsequently as a
Senior Specialist Nurse in Neurology. Shelagh later became a
Clinical Services Manager, managing the 6 Departments which formed
the directorate of Specialist Medicine. Following a 14-year
career in the NHS Shelagh worked as Head of Clinical Services in
various private healthcare facilities for 6 years.

Richard Antcliff
Clinical Lead Ophthalmology
Richard trained in medicine at the Medical College of Saint
Bartholomew's Hospital in London. His ophthalmic training commenced
at St Bartholomew's and Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, before
moving back to London. He worked at St Thomas' Hospital under David
Spalton and did a research degree into diseases of the retina under
Professor John Marshall at St Thomas' Hospital and Professor Alan
Bird at Moorfields Eye Hospital.

Dominic Ayers
Clinical Lead Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery
Dominic is a specialist plastic surgeon with a large practice
treating skin and cosmetic deformities. He has many patients with
moles and skin lesions as well as breast and other cosmetic
concerns. He studied medicine at Cambridge University where he
graduated with honours and then spent some time as a surgeon in the
Royal Navy before returning to hospitals in the UK specialising in
plastic surgery in East Grinstead and Bristol. He has undertaken
fellowships in plastic surgery in London and South Africa. During
higher surgical training he was awarded the FRCS(Plast) and entered
onto the GMC's specialist register for plastic and reconstructive
surgery.

Tim Bates
Clinical Lead Urology
Tim has been a Consultant Urologist in Bath for 9 years. He
graduated from Nottingham medical school with honours, undertookhis
surgical training in Bristol and completed a Paediatric surgical
fellowship in Oxford. Tim has specialist training in the diagnosis
and management of prostate cancer, urinary stone disease, complex
urinary tract reconstruction and vasectomy reversal, as well as
expertise in a broad range of urological conditions including
benign and malignant prostate conditions.

Neil Bradbury
Development Lead
Neil is a specialist knee surgeon and trauma surgeon. He treats
Olympic, professional and amateur sportspeople. He has a large
practice treating arthritis in both young and senior patients. He
trained in orthopaedic surgery at the Queens Medical Centre,
Nottingham, one of the largest and best orthopaedic hospitals in
the country. He has trained abroad in Australia with Dr Mervyn
Cross and Dr Leo Pinczewski, and in the U.S.A. with Dr Richard
Steadman - three of the World's most eminent knee surgeons. He
performs all types of knee surgery including keyhole surgery,
ligament reconstruction, half and full knee replacement and knee
cap joint replacement. He has a special interest in complex and
multiple knee ligament injuries and teaches surgery on national
courses.

Paul Conley
Business Development Lead
Paul has a background in General Practice and commercial
business development. Since gaining his MBA from London Business
School in 1993 Paul has worked in healthcare consulting for The
Wilkerson Group and IBM, before returning to General Practice in
2002 where he is a partner in two Hampshire practices. He was
instrumental in setting up East Hampshire PBC group, and the East
Hampshire provider group, and successfully tendered for the
North Hampshire community vasectomy service. Since joining Circle
in 2007, Paul has worked in Partnership Development as GP Lead.

Roger Hayward
Hospitality Manager
Roger joined Circle in 2009 to pioneer a new model of five-star
hospitality delivery in a hospital setting. Roger started his
management career in luxury hotels, culminating in a six year spell
at a 5 star country house property, Lucknam Park. He
successfully transformed the events side of the business, improving
revenue, staff retention and training and development year on year,
and playing an active role in the senior management team. Roger
gained a distinction in his BTEC National Diploma in Hotel,
Catering & Institutional Operations, and holds a degree in
Hotel Management.

Gavin Jennings
Clinical Lead Orthopaedics
Gavin studied at St. John's College, Cambridge and St. Mary's
Hospital, London. He was awarded a Fellowship in South Africa under
Joe De Beer, one of the world's leading arthroscopic shoulder
surgeons. Gavin subsequently undertook a further Fellowship in
Arthroscopy and Athletic Injuries at the University of British
Columbia, Vancouver under the Chief Medical Officer for the
Canadian Olympic Team. He took up a Consultant post at the Royal
United Hospital in Bath in 2007, specialising in shoulder surgery.
Gavin also consults at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic
Diseases.

Richard Mansfield
Clinical Lead Cardiology
Richard qualified from Leeds University Medical School in 1990
and after completing a number of junior hospital appointments in
Leeds and Harrogate moved to the South West to commence specialist
training in cardiology. He completed posts in Swindon and the
Royal United Hospital, Bath, before spending 3 years in the Wessex
Cardiothoracic Unit in Southampton. He went on to complete a
2 year British Heart Foundation Junior Research Fellowship at
University College Hospital, London, studying the effects of the
coronary arterial wall to balloon angioplasty and stenting.
This research led to the award of MD with commendation. In 2001
Richard Mansfield was appointed Consultant Cardiologist at the
Royal United Hospital in Bath. Richard is actively engaged in the
education of doctors training in cardiology and is the Training
Programme Director for Cardiology in the Severn Deanery.

Andrea Phillips
Clinical Lead Radiology
Andrea is a Consultant Radiologist with subspecialty interests
in Abdominal Imaging and Interventional Radiology. Andrea qualified
from the University of London and obtained Membership of the Royal
College of Physicians in 1992. She undertook Radiology
training in Oxford and a final year of subspecialty training as a
Fellow in Abdominal Imaging and Intervention in Vancouver, Canada.
Andrea has been a Consultant Radiologist at the Royal United
Hospital Bath since 1999. Specialist interests include the
imaging of the small bowel with CT and MRI, CT Colonography,
Abdominal MRI, Gynaecological Imaging and Abdominal Intervention.
She teaches and lectures nationally and internationally, and has
been Education Secretary for the British Society of
Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiologists since 2008.

Bill Phillips
Clinical Lead Dermatology
Bill trained in General Practice in Taunton following
undergraduate studies at Cambridge University. He subsequently
studied dermatology at Birmingham General Hospital and Birmingham
Children's Hospital, before becoming a Welcome Fellow and Honorary
Senior Registrar at the Institute of Dermatology in St Thomas'
Hospital. Bill took up his first Consultant Dermatologist post at
the Royal Free Hospital where he was an Honorary Senior
Lecturer. He moved back to his home town of Bath in 2001 and has
since been working in general dermatological practice, specialising
in skin cancer.

Nick Sharp
Clinical Lead Gynaecology
Nick was appointed Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with
special interest in reproductive medicine in 1989. Subsequently
founding Bath Assisted Conception Clinic in 1994 - now re-named
Bath Fertility Centre. He initiated research into the use of
Microwave energy for the treatment of heavy periods, to avoid the
need for routine Hysterectomy for this disabling condition. This
resulted in the successful introduction of Microwave Endometrial
Ablation into clinical practice in 1994 in the U.K, and
subsequently world-wide. In 1989 Nick Sharp introduced Vaginal
Ultrasound Scanning into clinical practice in Bath, as well as
introducing standardised Operation Records into Private Practise -
these have now been emulated in the NHS. He was the first clinician
to introduce Helium Plasma Arc Diathermy for endometriosis in
England & Wales. Nick Sharp also introduced Risk Management
into Gynaecology many years before Clinical Governance framework
was introduced.

Robert Slack
Clinical Lead ENT
Robert is a Consultant ENT Surgeon, he qualified in Bristol in
1977 with previous training in Oxford, London and Bristol. He
has been working in Bath since 1990. As well as undertaking all the
common operations undertaken by ENT surgeons he has developed a
special interest in surgery for nasal and sinus conditions to
compliment the interests of the other members of the Bath ENT group
of sugeons. He has a particular interest in the treatment of sinus
conditions, using both medical and surgical regimes based on his
own research work done with the Royal College of Surgeons. This
is published in various of the speciality's professional
journals, and is widely recognised worldwide as being the largest
and possibly most informative research evidence on the subject. He
served for 10 years on the general Medical Council, and now sits as
a lay member of the Solicitor's Disciplinary Tribunal. Robert is
also currently a Senior Lecturer at Bristol University.

Andrew Souter
Clinical Lead Anesthesiology
Andrew has worked as a consultant in anaesthesia and pain
medicine in Bath for 14 years. He qualified in medicine at
Edinburgh University prior to undertaking training in anaesthesia
in Oxford, Berkshire and Stoke Mandeville, receiving the FRCA in
1991. He then completed a fellowship diploma in Pain Management in
Dallas, Texas in 1993/4. He received the FFPMRCA (pain faculty
fellowship) in 2008. He has previously been clinical lead for
anaesthesia at the RUH in Bath and is currently clinical lead for
preoperative assessment.

Milicent Stone
Clinical Lead Rheumatology
Millicent trained as a specialist in General Internal Medicine
and Rheumatology. She is considered an international opinion leader
in inflammatory arthritis with special interest in
spondyloarthropathy. She is an expert in the field of inflammatory
diseases and has published her work in top quality peer review
journals. She is certified by the International Society of Clinical
Densitometry in Bone Density readings and was a co-Director of the
Metabolic bone program at St. Michael's Hospital Toronto from
2008.

Julian Widdowson
Clinical Lead Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy
Julian is the Head of Sports Medicine Bath Rugby, Elite Team
Doctor for England RFU and Medical Director Sports Injury
Rehabilitation Centre, Tuscany, Italy. Having qualified from
University College Hospital London, Julian has been involved in
many sports, including rugby, cricket and track & field
athletics. Since moving to Bath in 1988 he has worked with athletes
ranging from elite Olympic athletes and professional sports teams
to the recreational sports person, treating a range of sports
injuries. He was awarded an MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine
from the University of Bath. He was Team Doctor to the England
Rugby U16's for 10 years and joined the medical team at Bath Rugby
in 2003. Most recently he has been the Team Doctor to the England A
rugby team. Other Sports Medicine posts include member of the
Medical team for the Paralympic World Cup 2009, and team doctor to
Wales Rugby League. He is a tutor and examiner for the
University of Bath Sports and Exercise Medicine MSc course and also
for the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care Royal College of Surgeons,
Edinburgh.

Mike Williamson
Clinical Lead General Surgery
Mike graduated from the University of Wales in 1987 with a Bsc
(Hons) in Physiology. In 1991 he carried out his junior surgical
training in South Wales before taking up a research post into
ileoanal pouch function at The General Infirmary in Leeds. He
continued senior surgical training in West Yorkshire in 1997,
before spending a colorectal fellowship year in Concord Hospital
Sydney, Australia. Mike was appointed as consultant general and
colorectal surgeon in Bath in August 1999.
