Professional profile
Crispin Wigfield is a Consultant Neurological and Spinal
Surgeon. His NHS practice is based at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol,
which is regarded as a centre of excellence for the diagnosis and
treatment of neurosurgical conditions. Previously he worked at the
internationally renowed Walton Centre for Neurology and
Neurosurgery in Liverpool. Crispin graduated from the University of
Birmingham and completed higher surgical training in neurosurgery
at Cambridge, Plymouth and Bristol.
He was appointed as the National Spine Fellow in Leeds for
subspeciality training in both the orthopaedic and nuerosurgical
aspects for complex spinal surgery. Subsequently he was awarded an
HCA International Traveling Fellowship to study minimally invasive
and complex spine surgery in New York and Memphis, USA. Crispin was
awarded a Doctorate from the University of Birmingham for his
research on cervical spine arthroplasty (disc replacement surgery)
and spinal biomechanics.
Crispin Wigfield is a member of the Court of Examiners of the
Royal College of Surgeons of England. His academic interests relate
to his clinical practice and include: the health economics of
minimally invasive spine surgery, the application of new imaging
modalities to spinal research, evidence based spinal surgery and
cervical disc replacements. His medico-legal activity is
exclusively dedicated to spinal conditions.
