Professional profile
Dr Widdowson is the Lead Practitioner for Sports Medicine at
CircleBath.
Having qualified from University College Hospital, London, Dr
Widdowson has since worked with various athletes ranging from elite
Olympic athletes and professional sports teams to the recreational
sports person, treating a range of sporting injuries. He was
awarded an MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine from the University
of Bath. He was Team Doctor to the England Rugby U16's for 10 years
and joined the medical team at Bath Rugby in 2003. Most recently he
has been the Team Doctor to the England A rugby team.
Other Sports Medicine posts include member of the Medical team
for the Paralympic World Cup 2009, and team doctor to Wales Rugby
League. He is a tutor and examiner for the University of Bath
Sports and Exercise Medicine MSc course and also for the Faculty of
Pre-Hospital Care Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.
Alongside his Sports Medicine activities, Dr Widdowson is also a
part time partner in a large local GP Practise and GPwSI
(specialist General Practitioner) in Orthopaedics and Sports
Injuries.
Most of all Dr Widdowson believes that the delivery of a high
standard of Sports Medicine requires dedicated time with the
patient to explain the injury and develop an agreed treatment plan,
involving other specialist therapists where appropriate, in order
to prevent recurrence and enable the patient to return to sport
fitter and stronger.
Personal profile
With his busy professional career Dr Widdowson is glad to have
such a supportive family. Married to his wife, Celia, he has four
beautiful children. Away from work Dr Widdowson is a keen sportsman
and enjoys cricket, golf, skiing and playing tennis with his
family.

Musculoskeletal Ultrasound for diagnosis and for accurate
injection therapy, Sports Science Physiology to improve Sports
Performance and Hypoxic treatment for acute injuries.
