Mr Powell was appointed as a Consultant in 1993. He has
pioneered the use of Minimal access surgical techniques in
gynaecology that have been widely then accepted in the region.
These include laparocopic treatment for ectopic pregnancies,
endometrioisis, ovarian cysts, hysterectomies , tension free
vaginal tapes , endometrial ablations under local anaesthetic, one
stop menstrual disorder clinic and uterine artery embolisation for
fibroids. He was Clinical Director of the Obstetric and
Gynaecology department for 5 years and then the Head of Service for
18 months. He then became the Clinical Lead for Gynaecology at the
Treatment Centre where he helps to develop the skills of staff in
order to help them provide a great service to patients.
Mr Powell sees and treats both NHS and private patients at the
Treatment Centre.

Happily married for 25 years with 4 children, 2 dogs, 3 cats and

Special clinical interests
Mr Powell has a wide range of interests in benign gynaecology
ranging from the use of Uterine Artery Embolisations for fibroids
to hormonal ablative therapy for severe PMS.
He has a specific one stop menstrual disorder clinic for the
conservative management of menstrual complaints. Here using
versapoint technology intrauterine polyps are removed, LA ablations
for failed medical treatments are carried out, retrieval of lost
IUDs and immediate diagnosis of PMB.
There is a subsiduary clinic which runs monthly for women with
known fibroids where they are either suggested to have a UAE or
fibroids that are intra uterine resected or with open surgery -
myomectomy
He has an all day list in the Treatment Centre where more
complex cases of Endometriosis are treated either surgically
excised or ablated with PLASMA jet technology.
Uro-gynaecological complaints such as Genuine stress
incontinence with Tension Free Vaginal tapes are also carried out
in the daycase unit.
