Professor Horrocks is a Vascular and General Surgeon at CircleBath.  Before coming to the Royal United Hospital, Bath as Professor of Surgery in 1992, Professor Horrocks had already been a Consultant Surgeon at the Bristol Royal Infirmary for over ten years.

In the past he has supervised numerous PhD students and completed an MD thesis helping to lead the way to improving surgical outcomes and techniques related to patient care during surgery.

Professor Horrocks is an enthusiastic proponent of new techniques as can be borne out by the Endovascular Aneurysm Repair Programme that he has spearheaded the Vnus Closure technique for varicose veins which he has carried out on many patients since its inception and regularly treats varicose vein patients using this technique at CircleBath.

Overall Professor Horrocks has, and continues to thoroughly enjoy his time in Bath and is grateful to have been able to pursue his many surgical research activities both with the University and the Hospital.

Personal profile

Mr Horrocks is married with three children who are all grown up now. Both his daughters are doctors and his son is a professional sailor. He enjoys many hobbies but his favourites are fishing and sailing both at home and oversees and when pressure of work allows he pursues both these enthusiastically. He is also a keen gardener and walker.

  • Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm- Endovascular stenting of complex aneurysms.
  • Treatment of Stroke- carotid endarterectomy under local anaesthetic.
  • Arterial disease- claudication, critical limb ischaemia treatment by angioplasty and reconstruction.
  • Venous disease - leg ulcers, varicose veins and cosmetic veins - treatment using: Vnus Closure Foam sclerotherapy Conventional surgery where appropriate.
  • Deep vein thrombosis detection.

Research interests

Endovascular Repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms, Carotid artery disease - local-vs-general anaesthetic for carotid endarterectomy, Claudication and peripheral arterial disease, Varicose Veins - Vnus Closure, Microwave ablation, Leg Ulcer Management
