Professional profile
Mr Sharp is a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with
special interest in Reproductive Medicine.
After recieving his post at the Royal United Hospital, Bath, Mr
Sharp subsequently founded the Bath Assisted Conception Clinic -
now re-named the Bath Fertility Centre. The centre offers the full
range of assisted conception techniques including In-Vitro
Fertilisation, Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection, Donor
Insemination, Egg Donation, Cryopreservation of sperm, eggs and
embryos and also assist with surrogacy when appropriate.
Mr Sharp has initiated research into the use of microwave energy
for the treatment of heavy periods which resulted in the successful
introduction of Microwave Endometrial Ablation into clinical
practice in 1994 in the UK, and subsequently worldwide.
In 1989 Mr Sharp introduced Vaginal Ultrasound Scanning into
clinical practice in Bath as well as introducing standardised
Operation Records into Private Practice which have now been
emulated in the NHS. He was the first clinician to introduce Helium
Plasma Arc Diathermy for endometriosis in England and Wales.
He also introduced Risk Management into Gynaecology many years
before Clinical Governance framework was enforced.
Personal profile
Mr Sharp is married with three children. He enjoys gardening in
his spare time - especially hard landscaping and walling - as well
as fishing and skiing.

Research interests
Nick Sharp is the Clinical Inventor of Microwave Endometrial
Ablation first introduced into clinical practice in 1994 in Bath.
He is now researching the possible use of microwaves for the
treatment of fibroids.
He was the first Clinician to develop local anaesthesia
technique for out-patient Microwave Endometrial Ablation. Recently
completed research comparing different forms of local anaesthesia
for out-patient setting.
