Professional profile

Mr Uppal is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon with a sub specialty in Breast Cancer Reconstruction.

He attended medical school at the Royal Free Hospital, London and after graduating in 1993, was awarded a prize in Pharmacology for the results of his final examinations. He became a Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons in 1998 following completion of his junior surgical training. He went on to pursue his interest in research and undertook a clinical trial of a new medicine that improved wound healing. He was awarded a Master of Science (MSc) degree at University College London for this thesis in 1999, which was later published in various medical journals in the United States.

Mr Uppal has worked in many teaching hospitals in London and has been fortunate to work with many leading surgeons in the UK, USA and Europe. He was made a Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons in Plastic Surgery as a result of his experience and work.

Mr Uppal has since spent three months living and working in Belgium to further specialise in his sub specialty interest of Breast Cancer Reconstruction. He has travelled to meetings in France, Belgium, Italy and the US to keep up to date with the latest techniques and continues to do so.

Mr Uppal is currently a regular lecturer at the Royal College of Radiologists in Sentinel node biopsy for malignant melanoma and at the Hellenic Centre and Thames Valley University. He also recently helped to develop a new technique using ultrasound measurement of node depth for patients with melanoma and has published this technique in the European Journal of Plastic Surgery.
