Mr Richard Sutton is a Consultant General Surgeon with a special
interest in Breast Surgery, in particular cosmetic, oncoplastic and
breast reconstructive surgery and practices at CircleBath
hospital.
After qualifying from St Bartholomew's Hospital, London he went
on to complete his Basic and Higher Surgical training in London
Deanery
He completed his Breast Surgical Oncology training at the Royal
Marsden and Charing Cross Hospitals (London) and the Royal Adelaide
Hospital (Australia) as well as Breast Oncoplatic, Reconstruction
and Aesthetic Training as a Clinical Fellow in St Andrews
Department of Plastic Surgery, Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford.
Richard is now part of a strong and integrated breast cancer
multi-disciplinary team (including radiologists, expert breast
pathologists and specialist breast care nurses) at the Royal United
Hospital, Bath, who are able to give comprehensive help and advice
to those women who are contemplating, or who have had a breast
reconstructive surgery.
For breast cancer surgical management, he offers treatment
through breast conservation surgery, lumpectomy and mastectomy and
the unit is validated and approved for the use of sentinel lymph
node biopsies. The multi-disciplinary team also have extensive
experience with the use of pre-operative treatment of breast cancer
including endocrine therapy and chemotherapy ('neoadjuvant').
His surgical skills were recognized at a national level in an
article written in the Daily Mail in 2010: Revealed: Britain's top

Richard is actively involved with research into improving
outcomes for breast cancer treatment, being the lead clinician at
the RUH for a number of multi centre national research trials. With
an increasing commitment to surgical training at a local, regional
and national level he has been on the teaching faculty for a number
of national courses in oncoplastic & reconstructive breast
surgery, including many courses at the Royal College of Surgeons of
England.
