Professional profile
Mr Thomas is a Consultant in Children's Orthopaedics. His main
clinical interests are developmental hip dysplasia, skeletal
dysplasia, limb deformity and sports injuries in children.
Having graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1992 he
continued his clinical training at Bart's in London. He went on to
specialise in Orthapaedic Surgery in Oxford before undertaking 12
months advanced clinical training at the Hospital for Sick Children
in Toronto. He has undertaken further fellowship training in Oxford
(limb reconstruction) and Perth (adolescent sports medicine).
Since 2007 he has been a consultant in Children's Orthopaedics
at the Bristol Royal Children's Hospital and the Royal United
Hospital, Bath.
Mr Thomas is on the teaching faculties for Current Concepts in
Paediatric Orthopaedics and the instructional course of the
European Paediatric Orthopaedic Society. He also edited the new
Oxford Handbook of Orthopaedics and has written a number of book
chapters, including several for the second edition of the Oxford
Textbook of Orthopaedics.
He is a clinical lead for Audit and Research at Bristol
Children's Hsopital and has developed a web-based database for
Children's Orthopaedics there to facilitate routine gathering of
patient-reported outcomes.
Personal profile
Mr Thomas is married to a GP who has a special interest in
Rheumatology and they have three young children. He enjoys
endurance cycling, having twice completed an amateur Pyrennean race
stage of the Tour de France. In the years past he has been a
successful rower - competing at Henley Royal Regatta, and yacht
racer - skippering in Cowes and Windsow Cup Regattas. He also
enjoys dinghy racing with his wife.

Research interests
The use of systemic and injected intraosseus bisphosphonate for
avascular necrosis of the femoral head in children and
adolescents.
