Mr Bates has been a Consultant Urologist in Bath for over 10
years.
He graduated from Nottingham Medical School with honours and
underwent surgical training in Bristol and the South-West. He was
awarded a Master's degree from the University of Bristol for
research into the molecular genetics of prostate cancer. Prior to
being appointed in Bath, he completed a paediatric surgical
fellowship in Oxford.
Mr Bates has expertise in a broad range of urological conditions
including benign and malignant prostate disease. He has
received specialist training in the diagnosis and management of
prostate cancer, urinary stone disease, complex urinary tract
reconstruction, paediatric surgery and microsurgery (vasectomy
reversal).
He has been clinical director and clinical lead for Governance
and Risk Management in the department of Urology at the Royal
United Hospital, Bath. He plays an active role in surgical training
and is a member of the regional training committee.
