What is a Mammogram?
A mammogram is a scan that uses low dose x-rays to examine the
breast. It is used to help identify breast cancer in its early
stages especially when cancers are too small to feel.
Screening is not normally advised below 40 years, unless there
are risk factors such as a significant family history or personal
previous history of breast cancer.

A mammogram takes around 10 minutes and you will need to remove
your upper body clothing and wear the gown
provided.
You will routinely have two views baken of each breast.
During this process your breast will be positioned on the imaging
plate and gently but firmly compressed to ensure the best images
are obtained. Your radiographer will go behind a
screen and view the images taken.
The mammogram will be examined by a breast specialist
radiologist who will dictate a report of the findings which will be
passed onto your doctor
