who look after a variety of cancer types. We work as a
multi-disciplinary team with a holistic approach to patient care.
Together with our clinicians we provide exemplary care, within a
relaxed environment.
Sandra is our experienced Oncology Nurse who is here to help and
support you throughout your cancer treatment. She will look after
you from your very first treatment and will provide you with the
after care you need.
The treatment you require for your cancer will be tailored to
you specifically, and depends on the type of cancer you may have.
Treatments may include:
Chemotherapy
These are drugs which kill cancer cells. They can be given
intravenously (into a vein), or in tablet form, depending on cancer
type. Treatment is given in a number of "cycles".
Biological Therapies
These drugs use the body's immune system to help fight cancer
cells, and if appropriate, are usually used alongside
chemotherapy.
Radiotherapy
This is the use of deep x-rays to treat the area concerned. This
is given in a Radiotherapy Department, usually at the Royal United
Hospital, Bath. However, as with any treatments you require, it
will be managed by your Oncologist.
Hormone Therapy
Some types of cancer are sensitive to hormones, and therefore
respond well to hormone therapy. These are usually given in tablet
form, or sometimes by injection.
Supportive Therapies
Occasionally you may require other treatments such as a blood
transfusion or antibiotic therapy to enable your treatment to
continue as planned.
