Raise Awareness and Support
International Orangutan Day, celebrated on 19th August, shines a spotlight on the urgent need to protect these extraordinary great apes and their rapidly disappearing habitats. This significant day serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by orangutans and the crucial role we all play in their conservation. Fundraising efforts are a key component in supporting these initiatives, but the benefits of participating extend beyond financial contributions.
The Feel-Good Factor
Engaging in charitable activities provides a profound sense of fulfilment and joy, often referred to as the “helper’s high.” This positive emotional state results from the release of dopamine and endorphins in the brain, which not only enhances our mood but also boosts our immune system. By contributing to these causes, individuals experience increased wellbeing and a reinforced sense of purpose and community.
Upcoming Fundraising Events
There are exciting opportunities to get involved and make a difference while enhancing your own wellbeing. Join us for The Rainforest Run on 22nd September or take part in our Charity Abseil on 5th October. These events are designed to be both enjoyable and impactful, offering participants a chance to contribute to a meaningful cause while experiencing the personal benefits of giving back.
Steven Cree Supports Orangutan Conservation
Steven Cree, known for his roles in the hit series Outlander and films like Terminator: Dark Fate, is a dedicated supporter of conservation initiatives. Following his successful Sky Dive for International Animal Rescue (IAR) in 2023, Steven is now heading up ‘Team Orangutan’ for The Rainforest Run.
Steven commented, “I am proud to be running in support of International Animal Rescue. They not only rescue animals from suffering but also rehabilitate and release them back into the wild while working to protect their habitats. Their vision is a world where humans and animals coexist sustainably, and their mission is to build awareness and implement effective systems to safeguard both.”
He continued, “The Rainforest Run is a fantastic opportunity for anyone to get involved, whether by running, jogging, or walking a 5k or 10k distance. It’s a £10/$13 sign-up fee, and participants can run at their convenience. The personal satisfaction and positive impact of participating make it well worth the fee. You can sponsor me and Team Orangutan here: JustGiving.”
Support Orangutans
In addition to The Rainforest Run, participants can look forward to an exhilarating experience in October with the Charity Abseil down Portsmouth’s iconic Spinnaker Tower, a thrilling 85-meter descent that offers both a challenge and a chance to support a great cause.
Why Orangutans Matter
Orangutans share 97% of their DNA with humans, earning their Malay name “orangutan,” meaning “forest person.” As the largest tree-dwelling mammals, their arm span can reach up to seven feet. Participating in these fundraising events helps preserve these remarkable creatures and their habitats, ensuring their survival for future generations.
Celebrate International Orangutan Day by joining our fundraising efforts. Your participation not only supports orangutan conservation but also provides a rewarding sense of accomplishment and connection to a vital cause.
